ABOUT ME
Hello!
My name is Nathan Swanson, and I am a Graphic Designer from Omaha, Nebraska. That is where I call home to a supportive family, and two adorable cats. I currently attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities' College of Design, where I am studying Graphic Design with a minor in UX/UI Design.
I attended Westside High School in Omaha, where I graduated in May 2023 with commendation, and as a National Honors Society member. Throughout high school I participated in many activities, including track/cross country, clubs, and most notably, music. I have been a musician since 5th grade, and it has always been one of my most enjoyable and relaxing hobbies. I played a lot throughout high school, achieving All-State Honors three years. My love for making music illustrates how my brain flourishes on creation and art.
Since getting to the University of Minnesota, I have continued that passion for creation, by going into a creative field, and continuing to play music in many of it's music ensembles.
Why do I design?
As I previously mentioned, I have always been a creative person. Since I was a little kid, I found myself constantly asking questions, and asking about the world around me. From designing fun shirts in elementary and middle school, to making passion graphics about my favorite sports teams in high school, I have always had a knack for making things.
What I am specifically interested in:

→ Logo Design
When deciding what major to pursue in college, it is this knack for creation that drove my decision. I always considered doing something "safe" such as meteorology, computer science, etc, but my passion and belief in my creativity ultimately influenced me to follow my heart.
I firmly believe designers have the biggest impact on shaping the world around us. Both literally, in terms of designing the products and interfaces we interact with every day, and in a looser sense, where we have the power to shape messages, perceptions, and movements. What I mean by that last part is that design is a tool that people use to push a message, from advertising to resistance movements. I have a strong desire to shape the world around me in a positive way, and I am firm in my belief that designing gives me the toolkit to accomplish that.
Music also has a huge influence on why I design. My obsession with making music for a decade has had a massive influence on my design traits. My mind is constantly flourishing with melodies and tunes, which in return helps inspire my work. I can't confidently say I would be in a creative field if it wasn't for my discovery of music at a young age.
